The Czechs are better known for their beer brewing craft, but their capabilities to make memorable beverages goes beyond beer. Approximately 19,000 ha (hectares) of vineyards were registered in 2004, when the Czech Republic entered the European Union. About 6,000 hectares were planted only recently with selected grapes from abroad. The new plants are expected to produce first harvest in 2005. The winemaking in the Czech Republic is prospering and winning new clients in many parts of the world, including British Columbia. The wines are different in a unique way from the current selection available for British Columbia wine lovers. We are passionate about the wines we bring to BC and our goal is not only to bring "home products" to many thousands of Czech and Slovaks residing in greater Vancouver area, but to enlarge the wine palettes of all residents of BC. The beer brewing tradition in the Czech Republic goes a long way. Bohemia is world-famous for its pale lagers, and the terms "Pilsener" and "Budweiser" are used as terms of geographical origin in the Czech Republic. Today the Czech Republic exports 2.4 million of hectoliters of beer as well as occupies the top spot in the beer consumption table at 160 L of beer per person, per year.
